LUMIERE APARTMENTS
59 high- specification and multi award-winning apartments created above and around the 1930s Granada Cinema, with a restored Grade II listed auditorium at its heart. The auditorium was derelict when we acquired it but it was one of the last remaining examples of the work of noted interior designer Theodore Komisarjevsky. We created a contemporary landmark development of distinct, yet complementary architectural styles, sited high on top of St John’s Hill, with amazing views over London.
It was a logistically complex construction project as it sits on a major road with Clapham Junction, the UK’s busiest interchange station with 180 trains an hour, just behind it. The project involved the construction of two additional floors above the listed building, spanning 36 metres with no intermediate support – effectively creating a bridge. As a nod to the history of the building, it was named after the Lumière brothers who are pioneers of early cinema, and residents have access to a private cinema-style viewing room.
